Champion refugee reforms: Speaker Lusaka urges World MPs

Speaker of the Senate, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka Monday called on MPs at the 138th Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly to spearhead migrant and refugee reforms in their countries. While making his contribution at the Assembly attended by 751 MPs, Speaker Lusaka noted that migration reforms and refugee protection were of crucial importance but remained a thorn in the flesh of many countries. “Various countries’ administrations, political leadership, non-state actors as well as the global community have and will continue to grapple with these reforms which have far reaching socio economic and political implications,” said the Speaker. RUTO: SUPPORT UHURU-RAILA PACT.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga unity pact is not a political stunt but a commitment to peace and development of the country, Deputy President William Ruto has said. Ruto, during a tour of West Pokot county to launch development projects on Friday, asked other leaders should follow the example set by Uhuru and Raila. "We have agreed as leaders to unite and work together as President Kenyatta and Hon Raila have done," he said. He added: "We are uniting not because of political interests or for selfish reasons but because of the unity of Kenyans. This is so that we can focus on development which transforms the lives of Kenyans." WETANG'ULA KICKED OUT OF LUCRATIVE SENATE MINORITY LEADER POSITION

Bungoma Senator and Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula has been kicked out as Senate Minority leader. This follows a meeting of the tattered opposition outfit, NASA. Wetangula survived an ouster motion last week after Speaker Ken Lusaka temporarily suspended the action, ruling that he needed official communication from the NASA coalition’s chief executive officer. Reports indicate that leaders allied to Ford Kenya are currently holed up in a meeting to deliberate on the way forward. The Ford Kenya leader is set to be replaced by Siaya Senator James Orengo who will be deputised by Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala. On Friday, NASA leader Raila Odinga on Friday distanced himself from Wetangula's removal, downplaying it as in-house wrangles. The Bumula People's MP Hon. Mwambu Mabongah today hosted senate speaker Ken Lusaka in St. Teresa's Sec. School Kabula where the duo launched the school's ambitious 5 year strategic plan. Speaking at the event,the MP emphasized on the need for a synergized approach to education where stakeholders work towards achieving nothing but excellence for students and schools.
