OTTICHILO AND WAIGURU,BEST GOVERNORS
Governors Wilberforce Otichillo(Vihiga), Stephen Sang(Nandi)and Ann Waiguru(Kirinyaga) have been ranked as the best performing governors in a new survey that measured public perception on devolved units.
The survey, which coincides with 100 days in office, was conducted by Infotrak, a local pollster and research company.
The respondents, who took part in the survey conducted between 1st November to 28 November, were asked to assess the performance of their counties in the delivery of services in the key devolved functions such as provision of health services, roads, transport and public works, early childhood education, agriculture, prevention of pollution and accessibility of their leaders.
Vihiga emerged as the overall winner, with a total score of 72.5 per cent in the poll that surveyed some 108,000 people.
Coming a close second was Nandi County, with a rating of 72 per cent, followed by Kirinyaga in third place with a rating of 68.3 percent.
Others that ranked highly among the 47 counties were Machakos, Kisumu, West Pokot, Bomet, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Meru, Murang’a, Kisii and Mombasa.
Interestingly, counties led by former Senators ranked highly in the survey. The Nandi, Kisumu, West Pokot and Meru Governor's who ranked highly are all immediate former Senators.
The Vihiga, Kirinyaga and Bomet governors also served in various capacities in previous governments.
In terms of performance by sector, the survey ranked Nandi County as the top performer in Health, followed by Elgeyo Marakwet, Kirinyaga and Vihiga.
Respondents were also specifically asked to rank governors on accessibility where Vihiga, Nandi and West Pokot governors were ranked top in that order.
On maintenance and construction of rural roads., Machakos was ranked the top performing county, followed by Nandi, Uasin Gishu , Kirinyaga Kwale, Nyeri, Bungoma and Taita-Taveta.
In education, the best performer was Kirinyaga, followed by Vihiga, Machakos, Busia and Kakamega.
