WANGAMATI UNVEILS SCHOLARSHIP FOR BRIGHT,NEEDY KIDS
Bungoma Governor, H.E Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati today morning unveiled a BUNGOMA COUNTY SCHOLARSHIPS program, where students from Bungoma county, who qualified and were called to join National schools around the country, received full scholarship which encompasses full school fees, shopping and transport for the students.
This is a complimentary of the bursary fund, which the Governor increased its budget from the previous year's 180 million to 400 million this financial year.
The increase in allocation is as a direct result of savings from unnecessary expenditures in the County Government budget, like seminars away from the county and international travels.
Speaking in the launching ceremony held at the County Headquarters in Bungoma town, the Governor pledged to increase the bursary fund in subsequent years, and sourcing for national and international education partners that will be willing to be part of the Bungoma County scholarship program.
"On top of this, I have another program coming where we shall be sponsoring students to top international universities like Harvard and Oxford, who will become a human resource to this county when they come back.
You realize that top economists who control our big government and private institutions in Kenya are alumni of those universities.
We want our own sons and daughters to join that league.
I am passionate about this because am personally a beneficiary of such a program", he said.
Apart from the County scholarship, the Governor also sourced for five scholarships from Co-Operative Bank and one scholarship from KCB Bank for six national school students. The two Banks have paid full fees and shopping for the six students.
Today, 420 students benefited from the scholarship program, which included a number of them who were called in County and extra county schools but come from extremely needy.
