IMPLEMENT DAM PROJECT CAUTIOUSLY ,MABONGAH URGES

The Bumula Member of Parliament Hon. Mwambu Mabongah has urged the Ministry of Water and Irrigation to implement the Ksh. 4.6 billion Sio-Sango irrigation project with caution calling for full public participation and stakeholder consultation to ensure that the local community owns it.
The project involves construction of a dam a long River Sio in Talitia to provide water for irrigation, hydroelectric power generation and domestic uses in Bungoma, Busia and Kakamega counties.
Mabongah was responding to concerns raised by residents of Talitia village, Kabula ward today during a fact finding mission, a function that was attended by the Water CS Simon Chelugui and his Devolution counterpart Eugene Wamalwa together with governors Wycliffe Wangamati (Bungoma) and Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia county).
He said that since it is his second home, what affects the people of Kabula affects him too.
"Kabula is my home and what affects you affects me most. I have gathered that whereas some people are in opposition to this project maybe because they are not fully informed of its benefits or maybe out of genuine concern on potential risks, others are in support of it. We must have wider consultations and public participation to ensure that everybody's concerns are properly addressed," he said.
