OVER 1,000 MORE BRIGHT BUT NEEDY BENEFIT AS MWAMBU SUSPENDS SOME PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT EDUCATION.
An extra 1,000 needy but bright students from Bumula Constituency will benefit from the bursaries scheme as the Member of Parliament moves to clear any issues to do with bursaries.
Speaking at the Bumula Constituency offices where he held talks with parents and students before directing that they be issued with cheques, the MP explained how the bursary process was conducted, noting that the Ksh. 21m budgeted for bursaries had been exhausted.
However, the legislator directed his CDF Committee to suspend the purchase of an office vehicle so as the funds are channeled towards satisfying every other bursary applicants.
"You the people were involved in the public vetting exercise. I made it public so that the boardroom theatrics cannot be witnessed. You understand we raised the allocation to an all time high of Ksh. 10,000 per applicant. All the monies were well spend and the list is on the noticeboard just outside this office for public scrutiny.
However,my passion towards education stands. I have directed my CDFC to reallocate money ealier meant for purchase of a vehicle to be channelled towards education. That is to mean all of you here who are in school or who have kids in school but may have missed out on bursaries will receive cheques so that their education is not derailed in any way," the MP said.
The MP cautioned against petty proganda. He challenged anybody with proof that there are any malpractices to come forth and raise them, swearing his campaign platform on integrity stands.
"I have heard and read rumours about the bursary process. I have come to listen. If there is anybody who solicited for money before giving you bursary, name them and you'll witness how fast I'll act. They'll be fired.
As to claims of foreigners being awarded bursaries,I challenge anybody with names of the foreigners from the list on the noticeboard to step forward. I'll handle that decisively.
My stand on integrity stands. I want to serve with honesty." Hon. Mwambu said.
The participants in today's forum accused detractors of the allegations. They expressed happiness with the open kind of leadership being exhibited cheering the MP on.
"I am a student of Kibabii University. I have read the propaganda on social media. I came here to appreciate the MP. He has ensured all of us benefit from bursaries.
I have been waiting for anybody to raise the allegations here so that we put them to task," said one Ken Wafula.
The residents noted that the bursary scheme that has previously been marred with negative energies was being straightened courtesy of Hon. Mabongah, expressing their faith in the whole process and optimism of a bright future of education in the constituency.
