MWAMBU LAUNCHES AMBITIOUS BURSARY PROGRAMME,PROMISES TO PHASE OUT MUDWALLED CLASSES AND RAISE EDUCATION STANDARDS IN BUMULA
Bumula legislator Hon. Mwambu Mabongah has today launched an ambitious bursary scheme in a colourful ceremony held at the Kibabii Diploma Teachers' Training College Syombe campus.
The MP used the opportunity to enlist his education blueprint for the education sector in the constituency, saying his stand with headteachers on infrastructural development and result improvement stands saying the delay in initiating its implementation is due to the delay in release of funds by the national government.
"... I received the AIE to this funds on Friday. Today I have released the funds because I'm ahead of time in planning. Application and vetting processes were done early enough in anticipation of these monies. The moment the money was wired into our accounts they get disbursed immediately...... This is your money. I'm only a custodian.
My pact with teachers stands. I will fulfil every letter of our agreement in the meeting we had,'' Mwambu said.
The Member of Parliament implored for support from the electorate since he would deliver. He earmarked several schools that he would give priority immediately funds for infrastructure development comes. The schools which he passionately enlisted as being in a sorry state had classes under trees and in mudwalled structures. The MP vowed to phase the mudwalled structures out and have model schools and buildings for the schools even as he passionately seeks to revolutionize education in the sub county.
".... Wacholi,Napara ACK,Mundaa,Ng'oli Primary, Mutua Primary,Lukusi Primary, Lukhuna Primary, Tabala Primary and other schools that hold classes from under trees will be a thing of the past. My research office has identified them and I can assure you, that during my tenure,I will not let pupils learn from outside nor will they learn from mud walled buildings.''
The MP said amid applause.
The bursary scheme will see more than 700 university students out of the 900 applicants get bursaries with 1000 college applicants getting the Ksh. 10,000-shilling-per-beneficiary bursary allocation.
Ninety seven out of the one hundred bursary applicants in national schools are beneficiaries of the scheme and 252 and 60 benefitting in extra county and county and day schools respectively.
A total of 2107 students have benefited from the first tranche of the ambitious programme.
Hon. Mwambu also implored those who may have missed to seek the office promising to find a way of assisting each of them to achieve their dreams and be satisfied.
